STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING FORM

Note: You must complete the online application AND receive your student ID# from the International Office, before submitting this form. Do not enter a fake ID#. Forms with invalid ID#"s will not be accepted. 

I. If requesting a transfer to ECU from an institution within the U.S., I must be in status with the U.S. Immigration Service.

II. As an F-1/J-1 visa holder, I am required to successfully complete a full course load each semester that I am a student (undergraduate-12 hours; graduate-9 hours). U.S. Immigration Service does not require me to attend the summer session (June-July) unless it is my first semester with ECU. I am responsible for reviewing the online course policy as listed on the ISPS Maintaining Immigration Status webpage. I understand that if I am transferring to ECU, from an approved F-1 school, that I must start my courses within 5 months of my last F-1 status end date (i.e., program end date or OPT) or the next available semester, whichever comes first.

III. As an F-1/J-1 visa holder, there are visa restrictions which prohibit off campus employment without prior employment authorization from the U.S. Immigration Service and the Designated School Official/International Advisor. The penalty for working off campus without employment authorization is deportation. There is no option for reinstatement as the result of unauthorized off campus employment and/or working beyond 20 hours per week on campus.

IV. For each semester I enroll, I will be charged a fee for student health insurance. Insurance rates are subject to change. I understand that I will automatically be enrolled in the school insurance, and any request for a waiver of the school insurance policy must be submitted directly to the insurance carrier by the deadline given for that session.

V. I understand as an F-1/J-1 visa holder I must remain in status at all times for the duration of F-1/J-1 status.

VI. I understand that I will be automatically registered as a member of the International Student Connection Club (ISCC) AND the Asian Student Association OR African & Caribbean Student Association based on my country of citizenship. To refuse membership, I must opt-out by sending a written request to the International Director.

VII. I understand that I will be assigned an ECU email account, and that I will be held responsible for all correspondences and information sent to that account. I understand that the ISPS Office will provide all notices, updates, deadlines, and requirements via the ECU school email account. I understand that my personal e-mail will also be used by university officials, student club advisors and executive officers to communicate with me. To stop the use of my personal e-mail address I must opt-out by sending a written request to the International Director.

My submission acknowledges that I have read and understand the aforementioned Statement of Understanding and agree to abide by said provisions.
